After graduation I went to East Tennessee Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Knoxville. I completed my nursing education in 1964 and began my career as a Registered Nurse. I continued working at Baptist Hospital as a Medical-Surgical Charge Nurse for 11 years. In 1976 I accepted a position with National HealthCorp in Knoxville as an assistant Director of Nursing and remained there until I transferred to Johnson City in 1989 to become the Director of Nursing at Colonial Hill Health Care Center. I moved back to Chattanooga in 1991 and worked for two years as a Rehabilitation Nurse at Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation. I attained a certification as a Rehabilitation Registered Nurse in 1995 and that gave me the opportunity to begin working as a Managed Care Nurse with Liberty Mutual Insurance. In 2001 my career took an unexpected turn when I was offered a new and exciting position with BenchMark Physical Therapy doing marketing and public relations as a Worker's Compensation Specialist. I also serve as a liaison between my employer and the Chamber of Commerce in nine counties. On the personal side, I was married to David Roach in 1965 and my only child, Stacy, was born in 1970. I was divorced in 1989 and shortly thereafter, moved back to Chattanooga to help my brother care for our mother. I now live in Harrison, which feels like home because I spent a lot of time there with my buddies while in high school. I have a large rose garden and I am a slave to 75 Hybrid Tea Roses for most of the summer. My daughter graduated from East Tennessee State University with a BS in Education and teaches second grade in Hawkins County School System. She met the love of her life, Joey Christian, while at ETSU and they were married four years ago. Joey teaches and coaches football and track at Volunteer High School in Church Hill, Tennessee. My granddaughter, Chloe, was born in 2000 and I have become a typical, doting Grandmother. I feel most fortunate to have a beautiful, accomplished daughter who is my best friend, a son-in-law who is a devoted husband and a father (and actually likes his mother-in-law), and a wonderful grandchild who lights up my life.
